In the late afternoon of this Thursday (25), Corinthians published, on social media, a note lamenting the tragedy in Venezuela, caused by two earthquakes that hit the country last Wednesday, which ended up affecting several families. The earthquakes left considerable marks of destruction in several cities, in addition to thousands of deaths and injuries.
The first earthquake occurred at 6:04 pm (Brasília time) yesterday, with a magnitude of 7.2 on the Richter scale. Seconds later, a new tremor came, this time with a magnitude of 7.5. The epicenter of the earthquakes occurred near Morón, a coastal city located 160 kilometers from Caracas, the Venezuelan capital.

According to information from the United States Geological Survey, the tremors occurred less than 30 kilometers deep, which ended up worsening the damage to the surface. At the time of the earthquake, the majority of the population was in their homes, as it was a national holiday in Venezuela.
According to figures released by the competent authorities in Venezuela, to date, there have been 188 deaths, 150 missing and 1,520 injured. Search and rescue teams continue to be mobilized across the most diverse regions of the country and cannot rule out an increase in the number of deaths as the search progresses. Considering the moment, the Venezuelan government officially declared a state of emergency. Military personnel, firefighters and other volunteers continue to search for possible survivors in the rubble.
The earthquakes caused the collapse of 250 buildings, including an eight-story hotel. Electricity and gas services in areas of central Venezuela were interrupted. Maiquetía International Airport had its operations partially affected. The impact of the event in question was felt in Brazil, mainly in the regions of Manaus, Belém and Boa Vista. Some buildings had to be evacuated for safety reasons.
