During the afternoon of this Thursday (11), Mexico and South Africa faced each other at the Azteca Stadium to open the 2026 World Cup and the Mexicans won by the score of 2 x 1, starting at the top of Group A. Off the field, the match had an illustrious presence in the stands: midfielder André Carrillo, from Corinthians.

On his social networks, the 34-year-old athlete made some records and even ventured into the musical sphere by singing the song Oye Mi Amor, by the Mexican group Maná, who even performed on the pitch before the start of the match. Other personalities participated in the opening, such as Colombian singer Shakira, Colombian J Balvin, South African Tyla, as well as Nigerian Burna Boy. Click here to check out the video.

André Carrillo, it is worth remembering, had the opportunity to compete in the World Cup, but the Peruvian team had a bad campaign in the South American Qualifiers, finishing only in second place, and now, under the command of Mano Menezes, they are planning to complete the next edition of the biggest national team tournament in the world.

Corinthians' number 19 also made a joke associated with arch-rival Palmeiras. The midfielder was wearing a white (alternative) Mexico shirt and joked that, if he wore the green Mexican shirt, the Corinthians fans wouldn't like it. On vacation amid the break, the Parque São Jorge club will perform again at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava on June 25th, according to ge.globo.

Before officially returning to the field in the week of July 22nd, against Remo, at Neo Química Arena, in the last round of the first round of the Brasileirão, Timão must play a friendly against FC Cascavel, in Paraná, on July 12th. Alvinegro, at the moment, is in tenth place in the Brazilian Championship and is qualified for the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil and Conmebol Libertadores.

With his contract ending in December, Carrillo has an indefinite future at Corinthians. Hired in mid-2024, he was important in the team's start in the Brasileirão 2024 (from Z4 to Pré-Libertadores) and was part of the conquests of the Campeonato Paulista (2025), Copa do Brasil (2025) and Supercopa do Brasil (2026), against Palmeiras, Vasco da Gama and Flamengo, respectively. In total, there are three goals and six assists in 96 games (59 starts) for Alvinegro.
