Corinthians midfielder closely follows Brazil's World Cup debut

The Brazilian team began its journey to the World Cup last Saturday and had a Corinthians player watching everything closely. Midfielder Matheus Pereira was in the stands at the New York/New Jersey Stadium, in the United States, to watch Brazil's debut in the competition.

Through social media, the midfielder shared records of the experience. Before the start of the match, he published videos showing the movement of fans and the atmosphere around the stadium. In another post, he appeared alongside his wife, Victória Di Luca, both wearing the Brazilian team's shirt during the clash against Morocco. The match ended in a 1-1 draw and marked the team's first commitment to the world tournament.

Creative of Corinthians' youth teams, Matheus Pereira returned to Parque São Jorge at the beginning of 2026. The player was loaned by Fortaleza until the end of the season and returned to defend the black and white team after more than a decade.

Considering his first spell at the club, in 2015, and the current period, the midfielder has accumulated 22 matches with the Corinthians shirt. During this period, he participated in ten wins, six draws and six defeats, numbers that represent a success of 54.5%.

Although he has not yet scored goals for Corinthians, Matheus has already won two victories for the club. He was part of the 2015 Brazilian champion squad and also participated in the campaign that resulted in the 2026 Brazilian Super Cup title.

Without official commitments since the triumph over Grêmio at the end of May, the athlete takes advantage of the recess period granted to the squad during the interruption of the World Cup calendar.

The group's re-presentation is scheduled for June 25th. From then on, Corinthians will begin an interseason to prepare for the rest of the season.

Before returning to official competitions, Timão will play a friendly against Cascavel, on July 12th, in Paraná. Until then, the coaching staff will have around three weeks to adjust the team and prepare the players for the challenges of the second semester.
