Corinthians learned, this Friday (3), the details of the 2026 Paulista Basketball Championship, which is scheduled to start on August 5th. Alvinegro will seek to win the state title for the 15th time in its history, the last time being 41 years ago, in 1985. In addition to Timão, the tournament will be contested by seven other teams affiliated with the São Paulo Basketball Federation (FPB).
They are: Pinheiros, Mogi Basquete, Bauru Basket, São José Basketball, Basket Osasco, Paulistano and Sesi Franca. For this season, the Special Division was reduced from 11 to eight teams. In the first stage of the tournament, the teams will face each other in a single round to decide the knockout stage, which will be played in quarter-finals, semi-finals and the big decision. The best campaign will face the eighth, the second the seventh and so on.

The quarterfinals will be held in a best-of-three-game series. The semifinals and decision will be played in best of five. Alvinegro will make its debut in the competition on August 6th, Thursday, at 7:30 pm (Brasília time), against Osasco, at Ginásio Geodésico, in the metropolitan region of São Paulo. Last year, Timão was eliminated in the quarter-finals after being beaten by Pinheiros.
In the second round, two days later, Saturday, Corinthians will host São José, at Wlamir Marques, at 4pm. Four days later, Wednesday, he will visit Pinheiros. On the 15th, Saturday, they will face Franca, at Parque São Jorge. On the 19th, Wednesday, they will play against Paulistano, away from home, at 8pm. Timão, still a visitor, faces Mogi on the 22nd, Saturday, 6pm. Finally, the first phase ends by welcoming Bauru, at Ginásio Wlamir Marques, on August 26th, Wednesday, at 8pm.
For 2026/2027, Corinthians basketball will have a 30% cost reduction in the budget for the Campeonato Paulista and Novo Basquete Brasil (NBB) disputes. The change is part of a policy of cutting expenses by the board led by president Osmar Stabile, due to the club's serious financial crisis, which has a debt of almost R$3 billion.
Last season, Timão had its best campaign in the NBB since 2018, stopping in the semifinals after being eliminated by Pinheiros. Three athletes have already left the club: Elyjah Clark, Davaunta Thomas and Kauan Raymundo. On the other hand, names like Elinho, Victão, Gabriel Novaes (contract until June 2027), in addition to coach Jece Leite, must remain defending the Corinthians shirt.
Alvinegro has negotiations underway with three names: Matheus Leal, pivot, who stood out for Unifacisa; Gemadinha, formerly of Rio Claro, and Betinho, who played for Pinheiros. With the sponsorship agreement with Fatal Models, which should allocate around R$4 million per year to the basketball department, Corinthians should gain momentum for investments aimed at qualifying its squad.
