Corinthians improves record in Paulistão Sub-20 debuts in the decade

Corinthians visited Mirassol, on the afternoon of last Friday (5), at the Manoel Francisco Ferreira Municipal Stadium, Bálsamo, in the interior of São Paulo, in the first round of the classification phase of the 2026 Paulista Sub-20 Championship, and won by the score of 1 x 0. Timãozinho's goal was scored by defender Iago Machado, in the 28th minute of the final stage.

The result made Timão improve its record in state debuts in the category in the decade (2020-2026). In total, during this period, there are five wins, one draw and one defeat, with 15 goals scored (2.14 per match) and six conceded (0.86 per match). The score is 76.2% of the total possible points.

In 2020, Timãozinho debuted away from home against União Mogi and won 5 x 0. The following year, they beat Portuguesa, also playing as a visitor, by the score of 1 x 0. In 2022 and 2023, they played their first match in the state of the category facing São Caetano, at ABC Paulista, losing 1 x 0 and drawing 2 x 2, respectively.

In 2024, they debuted in the competition playing against Água Santa, in Diadema, and beat the opponent by a score of 2 x 1. In turn, in 2025, they went to the interior of São Paulo and beat Sertãozinho by 3 x 2. In the 2026 season edition, they finally came out victorious against Mirassol, by a score of 1 x 0.

The triumph meant that Alvinegro left the competition in sixth place in Group 1, which has the following teams: Santos, Ferroviária, Juventus, União Suzano, Portuguesa, Portuguesa Santista, Jabaquara, Ponte Preta, Mirassol, São Bento, Itapirense, América and Sertãozinho.

William Batista's men will now return to the pitch next Wednesday (10), at 3pm (Brasília time), to face Avaí, at home, in a duel valid for the 15th round of the first phase of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship. At the moment, Timão occupies 11th place with 19 points - five wins, four draws and five defeats - 19 goals scored and 18 conceded. Only the top eight advance to the quarterfinals. Bahia is currently in eighth place, with 22 points.
