World champion with the Brazilian team in 2002 and one of the notable names in Corinthians' recent history, Edílson Capetinha recalled moments from his career and told details of the routine experienced by players during a World Cup. In an interview with Estádio Total, the former striker spoke about the structure offered by the teams, the importance of family support during the tournament and the feeling of winning the main title in world football.

According to Edílson, the environment within a delegation during a World Cup provides athletes with all the necessary conditions so that their focus is exclusively on the matches. The former player highlighted the monitoring of different professionals and the coexistence between athletes as important factors during the competition.

"The day to day life is wonderful. We eat well, we have daily monitoring, physical preparation, physiology, psychology. Inside, you are together with the players and form a family. The environment is very cool and we have all the conditions to deliver the best possible on the field", said Edílson.

Despite the concentration required during the World Cup, the former striker highlighted that contact with family members also plays a fundamental role in maintaining the players' emotional balance throughout the competition.

"We can't lose focus, but we have important contact with the family. The family passes energy and strength to us who are concentrated there. The family is very important. Of course, focusing on work, especially because it's a unique opportunity, we have little time there in search of a goal. Nothing from the outside can influence the inside", he said.

Recalling his career in the 2002 World Cup, played in South Korea and Japan, Edílson highlighted that Brazil's fifth championship campaign was marked by victories in all games played by the national team.

The former striker stated that the most memorable moment of his career was precisely lifting the world cup, highlighting the meaning of representing the country and achieving the objective of winning the title.

"The hardest thing is when you lose a game, right? In the 2002 World Cup, I didn't have that taste of losing a 'little game'. We all won. The happiest moment is when you win a World Cup. Duty accomplished. You went out with that mission of being a champion and bringing joy to Brazilians. You go out and achieve it. It's the best joy in the world", he declared.

Edílson also commented on the impact that a global achievement has on a player's career. For the former Corinthian, being a World Cup champion represents recognition that lasts a lifetime.

"When you play and especially when you win, you are remembered for the rest of your life. There is no money to pay for that. There are no difficulties in football for a guy who sets out with this goal and achieves it. I think he shows that the difficulties he had throughout his life were enjoyable and were valid, because the title of world champion validates all the effort you made throughout your career. It's the top we can reach", he concluded.

Wearing the Corinthians shirt, Edílson played 163 matches, scored 55 goals and won four titles with the club: the 1998 and 1999 Brazilian Championships, the 1999 Paulista Championship and the 2000 Club World Cup.

In 2026, Corinthians will have a representative in the squad called up for the World Cup: striker Memphis Depay, who plays for the Netherlands.
