Corinthians director updates Memphis situation and opens up about Yuri Alberto
Corinthians gained even more confidence behind the scenes with Memphis Depay remaining. This Monday, executive director Marcelo Paz revealed optimism to forward the contract renewal of number 10 before the start of the 2026 World Cup and also commented on the situation of Yuri Alberto, a recent target of speculation involving European football.
After the draw for the round of 16 of the Copa do Brasil, the director explained that Corinthians maintains frequent conversations with Memphis and indicated that the striker has already agreed to discuss a new contract format to remain at the club.
"The club's relationship is very direct, mine, Diniz's, with Memphis. He knows that we want him to stay, he says he wants to stay, and he knows that to do so he will need a new contract model. He has already accepted that", said Marcelo Paz to ESPN.

The executive admitted that Corinthians seeks to significantly reduce the costs of the current contract. Today, Memphis costs around R$3.7 million a month between salaries, gloves, bonuses and image rights. The board's idea is to reduce this amount to approximately R$2.5 million per month.
"There is a reduction in salaries. The overall package will certainly be lower. The athlete knows this and shows a desire to stay", he added.
Behind the scenes cheers up Corinthians?
As revealed by Gazeta Esportiva, Memphis' stay has gained strength in recent days. Corinthians is negotiating with partner companies to help make the new agreement financially viable, including Ezze Seguros, the club's current sponsor.

Behind the scenes, there is an understanding that the Dutchman is adapted to Brazil and has created a strong identification with the Corinthians fans. Recently, fans even started a campaign on social media asking for the renewal of number 10.
Marcelo Paz also highlighted the striker's involvement with the club's structural issues.
"He thinks about the club's structure, communication, marketing. He wants to bring experiences he had in big clubs in Europe to Corinthians", he commented.
Yuri only leaves for a "very good" proposal
In addition to Memphis, Marcelo Paz also commented on Yuri Alberto's future. The striker recently admitted his desire to play in Europe, but the director assured that Corinthians do not intend to facilitate an exit in the next window.
"The main factor is not the desire to leave. Yuri is special. After the interview, he played several games and killed himself on the field," he said.
According to Marcelo Paz, Corinthians will only open negotiations if an offer is considered irrefutable for both the club and the player.
"There has to be a proposal that pleases Corinthians and the athlete. The tendency is for our market not to be so expressive. If we sell, it will only be for a very good proposal", he added.
