Corinthians creates the best chances, but draws with Santos and remains undefeated in the Paulista U20

On Sunday afternoon (28), Corinthians entered the field for the fourth round of the Paulista U20 Championship and drew 0-0 with Santos, at the Ulrico Mursa Stadium, in Santos. In a balanced classic, marked by the difficulties imposed by the pitch conditions and few clear scoring opportunities, Filhos do Terrão created the best chances of the match, but were unable to find the net.
With the result, the team led by William Batista reached seven points in three matches played in the state competition, maintaining their unbeaten record and remaining in fifth place in the table. It's worth remembering that Corinthians played in the opening round of the championship.

Corinthians Lineup
The Corinthians coach started the classic with the following formation: Nicollas Siqueira; Cristian, Lorenzo, Levy Dias and Lucca Vaz; Christian, Luiz Eduardo and Guilherme Pires; Jonathan Dodô, Gustavo Correa and Nicolas Araújo.
On the bench were: Matheus Corrêa, Iago Machado, Yago Melo, Pedro Thomas, Pellegrin, Luiz Fernando, Luiz Fábio, Cauã Ribeiro and Gui Amorim.
Santos Lineup
Santos, in turn, was selected with: Pedro Traleski; Matheus Filipe, Guilherme Lemes, Rafael Gonzaga and Assis; Prophet, Lucas Arruda and Matheus Garcia; Padula, Pedro Assis and Kaio Ganga.
First half
The opening minutes saw greater initiative from Santos, who made better use of the pitch conditions and managed to stay longer in the offensive field. Right at the beginning, Nicollas had to intervene after a dangerous cross, and the Corinthians defense quickly removed the risk.
Shortly afterwards, Lucca Vaz suffered a blow in a tackle and needed medical attention. Despite returning to the pitch, the full-back could not bear the pain and ended up being substituted after 14 minutes. Cauã Ribeiro joined the team, while Levy Dias was moved to left back.
Santos' main opportunity came in the seventh minute. After a cross from the right, Padula appeared free in the area and headed against the crossbar, threatening the goal saved by Nicollas.
As time passed, Corinthians managed to balance its actions. Even though it was difficult to exchange passes due to irregularities on the field, Timãozinho began to occupy the offensive sector more and create opportunities.
The first good arrival from the black and white team came in a play created by Gustavo Correa and Nicolas Araújo, but the Santos defense managed to block the shots. Shortly afterwards, Dodô made a great individual play on the left, left his mark behind and crossed to Gustavo Correa, who appeared free inside the area, but headed over the goal.
In the final minutes of the opening stage, Corinthians began to control the game better. Christian risked a long-range shot, forcing Pedro Traleski to make a good save. Following the play, the ball exploded onto the crossbar before the Santos defense cleared the danger.
Despite the improvement shown at the end of the first half, Timãozinho was unable to turn the offensive volume into an advantage and went to half-time with the score at zero.
Second half
Even before the ball started rolling again, William Batista needed to make yet another change. Feeling pain in his right thigh, Nicollas Siqueira remained in the dressing room and gave way to goalkeeper Matheus Corrêa.
Corinthians returned more aggressive and began to frequent the offensive field in the first minutes. After a corner kick, Dodô finished from the edge of the area, but the finish was weak and ended up in the hands of the Santos goalkeeper.
Santos responded quickly and created their best opportunity of the second half in the 11th minute. Kaio Ganga received a free kick inside the area and finished one-on-one with Matheus Corrêa, who made a great save to prevent the home team from scoring.
The classic remained balanced, with many physical disputes in midfield and difficulties for both teams to develop elaborate plays. The pitch continued to make it difficult for the ball to circulate, making both teams rely on direct connections and crosses.
In the final stretch, William Batista sought to give Corinthians more offensive strength. Luiz Fábio came on and almost opened the scoring in the 37th minute, when he received a ball from Gustavo Correa, invaded the area and tried to cover Pedro Traleski, but exaggerated the strength of his shot and sent it out.
Shortly afterwards, the coach made new changes with the addition of Pedro Thomas, Luiz Fernando, Pellegrin and Iago Machado.
In the final minutes, Timãozinho pressed again. In a free kick raised in the area by Guilherme Pires, Pedro Assis deflected it against his own team when trying to cut it, but Traleski managed to make the save and avoided the Corinthians goal.
With neither team able to take advantage of the opportunities created, the derby ended in a 0-0 draw at Ulrico Mursa.
Next appointment
Now, Corinthians turns its attention to the final round of the group stage of the Brazilian Under-20 Championship. On Wednesday (1st), at 3pm (Brasília time), Timãozinho faces Juventude, at CFAC Juventude, seeking a place in the next phase of the national competition.
