Corinthians celebrates LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Day

Throughout this Sunday, Corinthians used its social networks to talk about another issue that has been gaining more and more importance in recent years: National LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Day, celebrated every June 28th. In a post made on its communication channels, the club highlighted that football must be a place of respect for all people, in addition to supporting diversity.

"Today we celebrate International LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Day and reinforce that football is for everyone", he said. The date in question is celebrated in reference to the StoneWall riots, which took place in 1969, in New York, United States. They were considered a historic act in the fight for community causes.

National LGBTQIAPN+ Pride Day seeks to highlight the struggles of different forms of sexual orientation and gender identities that have historically been subject to discrimination. The acronym mentioned refers to the most diverse orientations, such as gays, lesbians, bisexuals, transgender, asexual, queer, pansexual, intersex and non-binary people. The "+" sign represents other expressions that are not included in the acronym.

Acts of LGBTphobia in Brazilian football are punishable, according to article 243-G of the Brazilian Code of Sports Justice. In it, athletes can be suspended from five to ten games for discriminatory actions. Members of the technical committee can receive suspensions that can vary between 120 and 360 days.

If such prejudiced actions are committed by fans, clubs can be punished with fines ranging between R$100 and R$100 thousand. In case of persistence or greater severity, there may be loss of field command, points or even elimination from the competition.
