Corinthians agrees new deadline with Talleres to pay off debt due to Rodrigo Garro

Corinthians received a new deadline to settle the financial dispute with Talleres, from Argentina, regarding the signing of midfielder Rodrigo Garro. After negotiations between the directors of the two clubs, a payment commitment was signed last Thursday (11) that provides for the settlement of the US$7 million (around R$35.7 million) owed to the Córdoba team.

Initially, the amount should be paid in full this Friday (12). However, Talleres agreed to grant a new and final extension of the deadline, which gives Corinthians the possibility of making payment by next Tuesday, June 16th. The information was published by ESPN and confirmed by Central do Timão.

Andrés Fassi, president of the Argentine club, stated that the decision to grant a few more days was a result of the willingness shown by the parties to reach a definitive solution. According to the director, Talleres has acted collaboratively in recent months and recognizes Corinthians' efforts to resolve the issue.

The black and white board is working to close the case and avoid new sporting sanctions. The Argentine club even considered the possibility of asking FIFA to apply a new transfer ban if the agreed amount was not paid within the established deadline.

Currently, Corinthians is already serving a punishment imposed by football's highest governing body due to a debt related to the signing of midfielder José Martínez, from the Philadelphia Union, in the United States. In parallel, the club recently appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) to challenge an unfavorable decision by football's highest governing body in another international dispute, related to the loan renewal amounts for striker Talles Magno, who belongs to New York City FC, also in Major League Soccer.
