Conmebol confirms W.O. for Flamengo in a match against Ind. Medellín

Conmebol confirmed the W.O. in the match between Independiente Medellín and Flamengo in the fourth round of the Copa Libertadores de América this Thursday (21) due to lack of security at the Atanásio Girardot Stadium, in Colombia.

Fans of the home club staged violent protests, using bombs, flares and lasers.

Hooded, the Colombian protesters tried to invade the lawn, throwing objects, steel sheets and chairs.

Before four minutes into the first half, the confrontation was interrupted. The teams were sent back to their dressing rooms and the stadium was evacuated before the match was cancelled.

Flamengo confirmed at the top of Group A
With three more points added, Flamengo secured first place in Group A of the Libertadores with one round to spare. Now, in the clash against Cusco next Tuesday (26), the Rio club will only try to improve its overall campaign, which is important to decide the knockout games at home.

Punishments for Ind. Medellín
In addition to harming itself in the fight for a place in the round of 16 of the Libertadores, Conmebol punished the Colombians with five games behind closed doors as home team in South American competitions, two games without visiting fans, when playing away from home, in addition to a fine of almost R$ 600 thousand.
