Collision between van and truck leaves 13 dead in China

An overcrowded van collided this Thursday (28) with a truck in central China, killing 13 people and injuring three, authorities said.
The vehicle, with capacity for nine passengers but carrying 16, hit the back of a trailer while traveling along a highway in Henan province at 2:40 a.m. local time (3:40 p.m. Wednesday Brasília time), the police department reported on social media. traffic management of the Ministry of Public Security.
The van was traveling along the G40 highway, in the city of Nanyang, when it "collided from behind with a semi-trailer truck that was traveling in front of it", the department detailed on the Weibo platform.
The ministry said it "attached great importance" to the accident and "immediately sent a working group to Nanyang, led by an official from the traffic management department, to coordinate the investigation and control actions."
Fatal traffic accidents are frequent in China due to lax safety standards and widespread reckless driving.
