Coach wants Cape Verde to attack Spain in World Cup debut

Cape Verde begins its first participation in a World Cup in history in a Group H clash against European champions Spain, and coach Bubista stated that he wants his team to not only enjoy the tournament and present their country to the world, but also to be competitive.

The newcomers could hardly have asked for a more difficult debut, as they will face one of the favorites for the title this Monday (15), but Cape Verde is determined to make the most of this opportunity.

"We didn't come here just to participate; we came to compete, and that's clear to our team," said Bubista at a press conference on Sunday (14).

Spain's coach, Luis de la Fuente, spoke about Cape Verde in his press conference and stated that the team could be one of the teams capable of surprising. Bubista made it clear that his team does not intend to make it easy for anyone.

"Our team is prepared to play offensively if necessary, and we want to show that. Throughout this period, our team has shown maturity, and I hope this continues," he said.

A question of identity
Despite wanting to see a competitive Cape Verde, Bubista went beyond the four lines and highlighted the importance of showing the country's identity through participation in the World Cup.

"We've been talking about how much we want to enjoy the match and the World Cup. We've already said that our qualification for the World Cup means more than just football. It's a cultural and musical achievement," Bubista said at a press conference on Sunday (14).

"We want to showcase our country, so it's an incredible opportunity to present it to the world. We are very happy to face Spain in our debut. It's a wonderful start. This is a dream come true," he added.

For Bubista, showing the identity of his nation is the most important thing in a group that also includes Saudi Arabia and Uruguay.

"We want to show everything we prepared during the qualifying period. We want to compete and carry our identity. Being able to play these three group stage matches with courage and determination, showing the world who we are as a team, but also as a country", he said.

"When we mention our identity, we are actually talking about who we are as a people. We like challenges and difficulties because we like to overcome them. Our flag will be flying, and that is the most important thing, among the flags of the strongest teams in the world."
