The insurance market collected almost R$140 billion in insurance premiums, open pension contributions and revenue from capitalization bonds between January and April, according to a survey by CNSeg (National Confederation of Insurance Companies).

The data, which excludes the complementary health segment, represents a drop of 0.8% compared to the same period in 2025.

In the damage and liability segment, revenues reached R$47.4 billion in the four months, a growth of 4.6% year-on-year, according to CNSeg. Among the main highlights, guarantee insurance grew 27.2% in the period, to R$2.4 billion, while automobile insurance grew 6.6%, to R$20.3 billion.

In personal insurance, revenue totaled R$27.3 billion in the first four months of the year, an annual expansion of 8.9%, according to the report. Life insurance, in particular, surpassed R$13 billion in premiums, an increase of 10.6%.

In open pensions, contributions fell by 8.4% on an annual basis, to R$53.3 billion, according to CNSeg. The segment has been severely penalized by the more restrictive IOF rules, which this year began to apply to annual contributions exceeding R$600,000 in VGBL plans.

The bill will be charged in 2027, says Mundim | MONEY NEWS

In compensation, benefits, redemptions and sweepstakes for consumers and companies, the market mobilized almost R$85 billion, a drop of 4.6% in 12 months.

"The results indicate that, even in the face of a less favorable macroeconomic environment, the insurance market maintains the capacity to generate revenue and continues to play an important role in the financial protection of families, companies and economic activities", stated the president of CNSeg, Dyogo Oliveira.
