The former governor of Rio, Cláudio Castro, informed the president of the PL, Valdemar Costa Neto, that he will no longer be a candidate for the Senate for Rio de Janeiro.

The decision comes following new allegations about compromising conversations between the governor Cláudio Castro and the banker Daniel Vorcaro, from the Master bank.

Despite this, the candidacy was always conditioned on the former governor's legal situation. He was responding to a lawsuit at the Superior Electoral Court (TSE) for abuse of power in the 2022 elections, which could make him ineligible and make the contest unfeasible.
Even after the conviction and ineligibility, Castro maintained his pre-candidacy for some time, but began to suffer internal pressure in the party to give up.
