Civil Defense monitors intense rain that could hit RS next week

The State Civil Defense Monitoring Center (CMDEC) monitors intense rain events that could hit Rio Grande do Sul next week.

The weather forecast also points to a rainy weekend in the state. There is a risk of isolated thunderstorms, moderate to heavy precipitation and even hail.

According to Civil Defense, the return of hot and humid air to the state next week increases the risk of strong storms with a lot of precipitation.

Although monitoring indicates more critical events for next week, RS should already be hit by rain this weekend.

The change in weather began on Friday (10), with increased cloudiness and the return of rain in areas of Rio Grande do Sul and Santa Catarina.

This Saturday (11), instability gains more strength. The rain intensifies, with the risk of gusts of wind and occasional hail, between the north of RS and the Serra Gaucha. The largest expected accumulations could reach around 60 mm, mainly in the extreme north of Rio Grande do Sul.

On Sunday (12), instability is expected to continue across the three states of the Southern Region. Areas of Rio Grande do Sul are expected to experience showers associated with the advance of the cold front.

According to Nottus, in July, the South Region should have at least three more widespread rain events, associated with the passage of fronts and the advance of low pressure systems.

According to the weather forecast, next week's event should be the most intense, with some areas of RS reaching between 150 and 200 mm in around three days. There are indications that this rain scenario may remain frequent throughout August and September.
