City issues red alert after capturing hundreds of scorpions in ES

President Kennedy City Hall, in Espírito Santo, issued a red alert on the 15th due to the high number of calls to capture scorpions in the city. According to the municipality's Environmental Surveillance team, the arrival of the reproduction period for these animals is a cause for warning.

Hundreds of scorpions were collected in a short space of time during the last surveillance sessions, and with the approach of the reproduction period, known as the "scorpion walk", the tendency is for the number of animals to increase even more.

During the "andada" season, they leave their shelters to look for food and partners, increasing the chances of their appearance in homes, backyards and vacant lots.

The risk of accidents due to scorpion stings also increases, especially among children and the elderly, who are considered more vulnerable to complications caused after the sting.

The city's Environmental Surveillance reinforced that the fight against these animals depends directly on community collaboration. Cleaning is the main recommendation: keeping yards clean, avoiding the accumulation of debris, leaves, construction debris and household waste are essential measures.

Dirty and poorly maintained land directly contributes to the increase in infestation, as garbage serves as a shelter for cockroaches, the main food for scorpions, and creates ideal environments for their proliferation.

In addition, the city recommends that, when identifying the presence of scorpions, the population does not attempt to capture them and immediately activates Environmental Surveillance to carry out the collection.
