CIA director compares artificial intelligence to 'digital nuclear weapons'

The director of the CIA, John Ratcliffe, compared, this Tuesday (30), the most advanced artificial intelligence models with "digital nuclear weapons".
"Wouldn't it be absurd, as we have already mentioned, to compare their capabilities with those of digital nuclear weapons", said Ratcliffe, in relation to AI.

Recently, the Trump administration made a U-turn in its policy on AI for national security reasons.
On June 12, Washington forced Anthropic, a leading American AI company based in San Francisco, to prevent access to its two most powerful models, Mythos 5 and Fable 5, through an "export control".

This measure was partially suspended on Friday for the Mythos 5, accessible now to a group of American partners. However, the version for the general public of Fable 5, with limited functions, remains discontinued.
Also American OpenAI launched, on Friday (26), its GPT-5.6 model, accessible only to a circle of local partners authorized by the White House.
In line with the Trump administration, Ratcliffe reiterated that "emerging technologies" were "his top priority", "on the same level as China".
In his speech at an AWS conference, the division in Amazon's cloud, the director of the CIA, in office for 18 months, accused the United States' adversaries of wanting to "steal and manipulate" its technology.
Ratcliffe highlighted a reorganization at the CIA to increase its cybersecurity capabilities and admitted to having met with Elon Musk, director of SpaceX, as well as directors of Amazon, Google and Dell.
