Chile boosts recovery in Brazil's egg exports
After months of decline, foreign sales of Brazilian eggs, fresh and processed, recovered in June.
According to researchers from Cepea (Center for Advanced Studies in Applied Economics), the result reflects the significant increase in purchases made by Chile.
A survey by the Foreign Trade Secretariat, analyzed by the research center, shows that Brazil exported 2.59 thousand tons in June, considering all destinations. Number 19% higher than that recorded in May. However, compared to June last year, however, the volume is still 60% lower.
Effect of bird flu in Chile
For five months in a row, Chile has been the main buyer of Brazilian protein. In June, the country purchased 1.87 thousand tons of fresh and processed eggs, an increase of 41% compared to the previous month.
For Cepea researchers, this growing demand has a health explanation: in April, Chile recorded the first case of bird flu on a commercial farm. Since then, the country has resorted more intensively to Brazilian imports to offset the impact on local production.
Chicken exports
In 2025, almost 25% of chicken meat shipments were destined for the Middle East. But the developments of the war in the region, compromising traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, made it difficult for many people to receive the protein. Exports to the United Arab Emirates fell 8.3% in the first half of the year, compared to the same period in 2025.
Still, Brazilian protein exports have reached record levels this year. A Foreign Trade Secretariat survey shows that Brazilian exports of chicken meat, fresh and processed, totaled 2.9 million tons in the first half of 2026, a record for the period in the entire Secex historical series, which began in 1997.
The volume represents an increase of 12.9% compared to the 2.6 million tons sold in the same period in 2025.
New markets compensate for the downturn
According to Cepea researchers, the positive result in the first half of the year, despite the adverse scenario in the Middle East, highlights the diversity of commercial partners in the Brazilian poultry sector.
Sales to Japan increased 21.2% in the period, while shipments to South Africa jumped 38.3%, movements that helped sustain the sector's record performance.
