Former Minister of Entrepreneurship Márcio França (PSB) defended a ticket between former ministers Fernando Haddad (PT) and Simone Tebet (MDB) for the government of São Paulo.

In an interview with CNN Brasil this Tuesday (16), França stated that, despite initially wanting to run for Palácio dos Bandeirantes, President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva (PT) asked that the vacancy go to Haddad, due to the former minister's association with changes in the Brazilian economy.

"I really wanted to run for government, but he [Lula] said: 'Look, it's better to have the 13th, because the 13th Haddad is associated with changing the economy.'

The PSB (Brazilian Socialist Party) politician also highlighted the suggestion of a strategy for São Paulo to reinforce Haddad's name for a possible second round.

As there is a second round scenario for Lula, the presence of the former minister at the state level would also be important.

By mentioning less significant names of other possible competitors, França fears that, without commitment, the first stage of the election could take on the appearance of a second round, configuring a direct confrontation between the former head of the Treasury and governor Tarcísio de Freitas (Republicans).

"The most important thing here is to guarantee the second round in São Paulo, with the chance of also having a second round in the Brazilian election - there is a great possibility of having a second round in the Lula election and it is very bad if São Paulo does not have a second round in a governor's election", he said.

"We know that, although Haddad has scored well so far, I have no conviction in Kim's [Kataguiri - Missão] candidacy, much less in Paulo Serra's [PSDB]. Therefore, we can end up with a candidacy in which, sort of, the first round becomes the second in São Paulo", he concluded.

Despite the opinions, França demonstrated that the final position on the case would be Lula's, and, just as Haddad's choice for government was respected, "I will also respect the others".
