Chamber approves inclusion of prosecutors in the management of AGU

The Chamber of Deputies approved this Tuesday (16) the inclusion of the Federal Attorney General's Office and the Attorney General's Office of the Central Bank as governing bodies of the AGU (Advocacy General of the Union).

The entity's management is currently made up of the attorney general's offices of the Union and the National Treasury, the General Consultancy of the Union, the Superior Council of the AGU and the General Inspectorate of the Federal Attorney's Office.

Complementary bill 337 of 2017 proposes that the careers of these bodies should also be careers of the AGU.

The rapporteur, deputy Lafayette de Andrada (PL-MG), celebrated the approval and said that this reinforces the defense of the Union. In the opinion, the congressman emphasized the importance of defining the AGU's responsibilities.

"The reorganization of the AGU will allow the improvement of the Union's defense in court and a better performance of the constitutional duties conferred on this relevant legal body of the federal administration", said the rapporteur in the text.

The AGU's constitutional functions are to represent the Union, its agencies and its public foundations before the STF (Supreme Federal Court); give up, compromise, agree and commit to actions in the interest of the Union, local authorities and public foundations; exercise regulatory guidance and technical supervision regarding AGU bodies; edit and perform the acts inherent to their duties.

The text received support from the vast majority of the Chamber plenary and is now going to the Senate.
