Centrão sees Hugo strengthened after approval of the end of 6×1 in the Chamber
The approval of the basic text of the PEC that deals with the end of the 6×1 scale in the Chamber of Deputies, on Wednesday (27), was interpreted by Centrão as a demonstration of strength by Hugo Motta (Republicanos-PB).
According to political analyst Larissa Rodrigues, members of the bloc believe that Hugo emerged stronger from the process, having been responsible for creating the special commission that handled the matter. Sources consulted by the analyst pointed out that the approval of the PEC represented a litmus test for Hugo.
"There was pressure and even criticism of the president of the Chamber if he had enough strength", said Larissa on Live CNN this Thursday (28). She recalled the August 2025 riot.
In the episode, opposition parliamentarians invaded the board of directors and even sat in the chair of the president of the House, in an attempt to force a vote on the dosimetry project.
The occasion raised questions about Hugo's ability to control the House and it was even considered that Centrão could nominate another name to run for president of the Chamber in the elections scheduled for February next year.
Agreement with Planalto
The approval of the PEC text as agreed with Lula was considered decisive. Hugo had signed an agreement with the president, but still needed to ensure alignment with the other parliamentarians.
"By delivering the text as agreed with Planalto, keeping his word with both the leaders and President Lula, the understanding now is that he passed this test and became stronger", highlighted Larissa.
With this, Hugo also garnered the support of the PT and center-left parties for his eventual candidacy for re-election. According to Larissa, the agreement includes the expectation that, if Lula is re-elected in the October elections, the government will declare support for Hugo's re-election for another two years at the head of the Chamber.

Rights with the right
Despite the strengthening of the center and center-left, the movement also generated friction with the center further to the right and, mainly, with the PL.
Larissa Rodrigues highlighted that, if the opposition wins the October elections and takes charge of the Palácio do Planalto, Hugo may not count on their support from 2027 onwards.
Still, according to the analyst, the predominant understanding is that he is consolidating himself as a natural candidate for the presidency of the Chamber and no one would take away from him the right to run in the elections for the presidency of the House.
