CBF speaks out after Brazil's elimination: "We will come back even stronger"

The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) spoke out this Sunday (5) after Brazil's elimination to Norway in the round of 16 of the 2026 World Cup, in New Jersey. In a post on social media, the entity adopted a tone of reflection and projection of the future by stating that the Seleção "will come back even stronger".

Soon after the 2-1 defeat, the official profile of the Brazilian team published a message that mixes recognition of the trajectory and the impact of the early fall in the tournament.

"The history of the Brazilian team is made up of great achievements, but also of moments that strengthen our path. Today we say goodbye to the World Cup, certain that we will come back even stronger. Thank you, Brazilian fans."

The elimination marks an important negative impact for Brazilian football. The result against Norway represents the team's worst campaign in World Cups since 1990, when the team also fell in the round of 16, against Argentina. Since then, Brazil had maintained a sequence of minimal presence in the quarterfinals in all editions of the World Cup.

In this period, the country has experienced extremes: from the titles in 1994 and 2002 to the runner-up in 1998, through falls in the quarterfinals in 2006, 2010, 2018 and 2022, in addition to the semifinal in 2014, marked by the historic defeat to Germany.

With the elimination in 2026, the Seleção interrupts a sequence of nine consecutive World Cups reaching at least the quarter-finals and returns to a mark that had not been recorded for 36 years, equaling the 1990 performance as one of the most frustrating of the recent period.
