CBF completes installation of semi-automatic offside in Serie A stadiums

The CBF announced this Wednesday (27) that it has completed the installation of equipment to use the semi-automatic offside system in all 19 stadiums of Series A of the Brazilian Championship.

MorumBIS and Mineirão were the last stadiums to receive the technological apparatus. This weekend, the technology was tested in the games between São Paulo x Botafogo and Cruzeiro x Chapecoense. The same test took place in all other 17 stadiums.

Now, the semiautomatic enters a new phase for implementation: CBF VAR instructors will hold meetings with the company that operates the technology (Genius Sports) to learn about the technology and how to operate it.

In addition, all 72 CBF PRO referees will receive training to adapt to technology control. The last stage of the process will only be with the VAR referees, in a work to align the use of the two systems.

"We are going to start the training, the actions related to this training and throughout June and July we will have training with the referees who will work within this program. With all the adjustments made, with all the VAR and semi-automatic technology integrated, with the refereeing professionals trained and guided, we will have the beginning of the semi-automatic offside in Brazilian football", stated Netto Góes, Director of Arbitration at CBF.

The CBF's intention is to start using the technology officially from the 20th of the Brazilian Championship, the first of the competition's return.
