Carlos Leite explains why he took Corinthians to court; look

One of the many creditors of Corinthians, which is experiencing a serious financial crisis and has a debt of almost R$3 billion, businessman Carlos Leite explained the reason why he took the club to court.

In an interview with ge, the businessman with names like Cássio, Fagner and Renato Augusto highlighted that financial issues related to his commissions became a snowball, as Timão carried out successive negotiations without paying off the previous ones.

"Not my borrowed money. (Debt) as commission. They owe for many, many years, which people also don't understand. So we end up having exposure. Ah, "Corinthians owes I don't know how many millions to Carlos Leite" or I don't know how many to agent snow, right?", he begins.

"So the guy didn't pay the first one. After a while the guy made another negotiation, didn't pay, he made the third, he made the fifth, he made the sixth and that's it. At some point it will explode. And that's what happened with some clubs, like Vasco, Corinthians, anyway, like Atlético Mineiro today. That happens", he added.

Among the topics covered in the interview, Carlos Leite was questioned by the report about not having taken such action at the time when Andrés Sanchez and Duílio Monteiro Alves were in charge of the club, and explained that the relationship with the Augusto Melo management was complicated.

"Yes, of course, because the relationship I had with the club was a relationship... How can I explain, trustworthy. And I only did what I did with Corinthians, which many people don't know about, because the president who came in (Augusto Melo, who was impeached) wasn't right with me. In other administrations, the lack of payment to me wasn't because it wasn't right, he didn't pay for N reasons, but he recognizes what he has", he stated.

In 2024, Carlos Leite took Corinthians to court, charging amounts in excess of 16 million reais. The amounts relate to commissions, intermediaries and image rights in arrears. That same year, the club was condemned, but later the parties began negotiations to avoid financial blockages.

The businessman emphasizes that the trigger for the escalation of the situation has to do with negotiations linked to Brax, the company that sells advertising signs for Neo Química Arena.

"I negotiated a contract for Corinthians with Brax, for the rights to advertising signs. Corinthians has an amount to receive over six years and I negotiated with the president the following: "look, I'm bringing you this contract to which I was hired and I would like if this contract is finalized that you pay me what you owe me in three years. You have six years to receive it. You pay me in three. I didn't get paid for seven or eight years, you pay me in three", he explained.

"The contract between Brax and Corinthians was still under analysis. I made sure that my lawyer put all the negotiations in the same contract that were made so that there would be no doubts whatsoever. So we attached all the contracts, what was not paid and so it was done. But an election comes and the opposition wins and the opposition looks for Brax and tells Brax not to consent to that contract, that if she were to consent, she would cancel the contract", he continued.

"What was done there: a credit assignment of the amounts to be paid in three years was going to be made. What do I have left? The guy is coming in and in his first attitude towards me, he doesn't look for me, he doesn't talk to me, he didn't have any kind of conversation. He simply looks for this company and tells the company: "man, you don't sign as a consenter, because if you sign as a consenter I will cancel the contract". I had no other alternative. I had to take action against Corinthians, something I've held onto all these years", said Carlos.

"Ah, you didn't go against Andrés, against Duílio, against Roberto". I really didn't go in. Why? Because we were always having conversations, paying a portion, insuring it and so on. When I manage to find a way where I bring new revenue to the club, where everything is agreed, the incoming president makes a threat that the company will not agree to. The contract for Corinthians was signed, the contract for me was signed. The company's consent was needed to make the transfer. I had no alternative. I had to go to court and charge", concluded the businessman.

Current situation

It is worth remembering that since March 2026, Corinthians has paid monthly the amounts provided for by the Centralized Execution Regime (RCE), and the debt with Carlos Leite is included.

The expectation is that in the first year, Timão will allocate at least 4% of its recurring revenue to the program. The plan also establishes priority criteria for paying creditors and provides ways to speed up payment, including a "preferential" classification of creditors and also the creation of reverse auctions.
