Car market grows 20% in the first half of the year; see the 20 best sellers
The brand new car market closed the first half of 2026 with an increase of almost 20% (19.7%) over the same period of the previous year. There were 1,356,142 units in 2026, against 1,133,181 in the same period in 2025. In the first half of the year, the showroom totals 688,131 units and direct sales reach 668,011. The numbers were anticipated by the consultancy Bright Consulting.
Among the most sold models in the semester, Fiat Strada continues to lead the market. Over the first six months of this year, the pickup sold 83,041 units.
Next, the Volkswagen Polo is the second-leading hatch overall. There were 54,096 units registered in the period. In addition to being second overall, the Polo is also the leader among passenger cars.
To close the Top 3, another Volkswagen car appears on the list. The VW T-Cross sold 48,049 cars between January and June this year.
In addition, the model is also the best-selling SUV in the first half of 2026.
A surprise in the ranking is the BYD Dolphin Mini. The Chinese brand's electric hatch is already the ninth best-selling vehicle in Brazil. Among 100% electric cars, it is the category leader; with broad advantage.
