Canada will have an important return for a duel against South Africa in the World Cup

The captain of the Canadian national team, Alphonso Davies, is ready for this Sunday's clash against South Africa, valid for the round of 32 finals of the World Cup.

The player had been recovering from a thigh injury suffered during the Champions League semi-final between Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

"Now that we have Alphonso back, healthy and ready to play, I think it's a great moment for the team and a huge encouragement for the group", declared coach Jesse Marsch this Saturday (27).

Davies wanted to have taken the field in Canada's final Group B match against Switzerland, when the Canadians were defeated 2-1, but Marsch warned the 25-year-old it was still too early.

"It was difficult to watch those three games," said Davies. "It was painful. The only thing you want to do is play."

Marsch stated that his main objective was to protect Davies. "You need to treat them (the players) as if they were Ferraris", added the coach.

Next games
Canada qualified in second place in Group B, with four points, and will face South Africa, second in Group A, at the SoFi Stadium, in Los Angeles, in the United States. The winner of the match takes on whoever wins between France and Sweden.
