Canada renews coach Jesse Marsch until the 2030 World Cup

Coach Jesse Marsch has signed a four-year contract extension with Canada, valid until the 2030 World Cup, the Canadian Soccer Federation said on Monday.

The American took charge in 2024, succeeding John Herdman, and led Canada to fourth place in the 2024 Copa América, in addition to reaching 26th place in the FIFA rankings last year, its best placing.

"From day one, I felt a deep connection to this team, this country and the direction of the program," Marsch said in a statement.

"I am delighted to make a long-term commitment here, helping to develop this program over the coming years and continuing to drive this group to the highest level."

Canada, who will co-host the World Cup with the United States and Mexico, have automatically qualified for the tournament and are preparing to announce their final squad later this week.

Marsch, former coach of Leeds United and RB Leipzig, has a record of 12 wins, 12 draws and five defeats with Canada.

The Canadian Soccer Federation said the extra time was funded in large part by five Canadian families and fans linked to the men's national team program.

Canada hosts Uzbekistan in a friendly on June 1, before facing Ireland on June 5 in their final World Cup warm-up game.

Marsch's team debuts in the World Cup on June 12 against Bosnia and Herzegovina in Toronto, before facing Qatar on June 18 and Switzerland on June 24 in Vancouver.
