Businesspeople criticize 6×1's proposal and ask Alcolumbre for more time

Representatives of the Brazilian business community had a meeting this Tuesday (26) with the president of the Senate, Davi Alcolumbre (União-AP), to ask for more time to analyze the 6×1 PEC. The businesspeople were against the advancement of the proposal in Congress and said that the discussion cannot take place during an electoral period.

The president of the CNI (National Confederation of Industry), Ricardo Alban, and the president of Fiesp (Federation of Industries of the State of São Paulo), Paulo Skaf, spoke to the press after the meeting.

According to them, the debate on reducing working hours must be carried out with "calmness and technical studies". The businesspeople avoided saying that they are against the project, but defended that the constitutional ceiling remains at 44 hours a week.

"We came to find a solution. We did not come to complain, to negotiate. The text possibly approved in the Chamber is adverse to the interests of workers and consumers themselves. We hope that the Senate can have the balance and maturity to discuss an important issue without electoral motivations", said Alban.

Skaf reinforced that businesspeople defend collective bargaining, in which each sector defines with workers how the schedule and working hours will be carried out.

For businesspeople, approving the reduction via the PEC "stifles" negotiations between unions and employers from different sectors. For Skaf, the proposal discussed in the Chamber is "outside the Brazilian reality".

"Alcolumbre understood the complexity of the subject and the need to debate calmly. Our proposal is that the discussions be carried out calmly. The only thing that needs to be done is to take your time and do it quickly. A few more months won't make any difference. The Chamber's proposal was made irresponsibly. It didn't listen to any sector", he said.

The special commission that discusses the PEC, however, received businesspeople from different sectors not only in the Chamber, but also in seminars held in the states. Representatives from Fecomércio-SP (Federation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism of the State of São Paulo) and CNC (National Confederation of Commerce in Goods, Services and Tourism) participated in a commission hearing and also took a stance against the end of the 6×1 scale.
