Bus accident involving pilgrims in CE leaves 2 dead and more than 20 injured

A bus with around 40 pilgrims overturned, this Saturday morning (4), on the CE-456 highway, in Juá, in the rural area of Canindé, in Ceará, leaving two dead and at least 21 injured.

According to the CBMCE (Ceará Military Fire Department), teams from the Canindé, Baturité and Quixadá barracks were mobilized for the incident, working to rescue and extricate the victims and sweep the area.

According to the Canindé Municipal Guard, which was called at around 6 am, the bus was coming from the city of Brejo Santo and heading to Canindé.

Two deaths were confirmed after the bus collapsed, when only the remains were found under the vehicle.

The injured victims were rescued and taken to hospitals in the region. The São Francisco de Canindé Regional Hospital reported that among the 21 people rescued are people of both sexes and different ages, including children.

Two of the patients were transferred to the Tertiary Hospital and four underwent surgical or orthopedic procedures, remaining hospitalized.

The incident was also attended to by the Military Police of Ceará, the Federal Highway Police and the Forensic Expertise of the State of Ceará, who continued with expert and investigative procedures to determine the circumstances of the accident.
