Bruce Willis' wife updates the actor's health status and care
Emma Heming Willis, 48, shared an update on the health of her husband, actor Bruce Willis, 71, who was diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia (FTD) in 2023.
Appearing on the Today program, on Wednesday (27), the model stated that the family remains determined to offer the best care to the "Die Hard" star.
"We are fine. My husband receives support and love, and we are doing our best under the circumstances," he said.
"What I learned is that it is very important to take care of ourselves and, if we don't take care of ourselves, how can we take care of the people we love?", added the businesswoman, who recently announced the creation of a fund focused on research into dementia and support for family members and caregivers of people affected by the condition.
"It's really important to prioritize our health, prioritize the health of our brain. There are practical steps we can take today to improve our brain health in the future", he pointed out.
Emma, who has two daughters with the actor, Mabel, 14, and Evelyn, 12, has become the main person responsible for Bruce's care since his diagnosis.
The former model recently received the Susan Newhouse and Si Newhouse Award of Hope, given to people who excel in raising awareness and supporting research into frontotemporal dementia.
At the time, the businesswoman said she believed that the experience alongside her partner brought her closer to the reality experienced by families affected by neurodegenerative diseases.
"This experience opened my eyes to the realities that so many families face when a loved one lives with frontotemporal dementia. I deeply believe in the importance of supporting research, but also being there for the caregivers who carry so much every day. Through this fund, I hope to help deepen understanding about FTD and ensure that families facing this disease feel seen, supported, and less alone. Bruce has always led with generosity and heart, and I know he would be proud to see this initiative helping families facing this disease," he stated her.
