Breakdown at São Paulo airports delayed 132 flights and another 15 were canceled

The communication failure that affected São Paulo airports this Tuesday morning (2) caused the delay of 135 flights and another 15 flights were cancelled. The numbers were released by the president of Anac (National Civil Aviation Agency), Tiago Faierstein, in an interview with CNN.

The president of the agency highlighted that the breakdown - the second in less than two months - is not a "systemic problem" but rather a specific one. Furthermore, he said that the communication failure lasted a few minutes.

This morning's breakdown was caused by a communication failure in a satellite used by Decea (Air Control Department) to make contact between the control towers and the planes in flight.

Decea activated an emergency protocol, transferring the communication frequency for aircraft landing monitoring directly to the control towers.

"Despite the problem, nothing was compromised at Terminal São Paulo", explained the agency's president.

He considered the failure as an external incident, beyond the control of Anac and Decea, exempting the airport infrastructure from responsibility.

Faierstein advised that consumers affected by the breakdown contact the airline to find out the status of their flight, possible rescheduling or even a refund. He also recalled that the agency provides the Anac Passageiro platform to try to mediate conflicts between passengers and companies.
