Brazilian Music Award 2026 will honor Cazuza at event in Rio

The 33rd edition of the Brazilian Music Award will honor the singer Cazuza. The ceremony will take place at the Theatro Municipal in Rio de Janeiro, on June 10, and will announce the winners of 18 award categories. Artists from different musical styles will perform new shows inspired by the singer's compositions.

Cazuza, who died in July 1990, aged 32, is the author of hits such as "Exagerado", "O Tempo Não Para" and "Codinome Beija-Flor". In addition to his musical career, marked by a unique rebellion, the artist became a symbol of the fight against acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (Aids), which caused his early death.

The award will recognize artists, albums and projects released in the last year. Among the 2026 nominees are names such as Marisa Monte, Djavan, Emicida, Ana Castela, Alcione, Marina Sena, Péricles and Xande de Pilares.

Actresses Alice Wegmann and Debora Bloch will be the presenters of the event, while the music director will be multi-instrumentalist Pretinho da Serrinha.

According to the creator of the award, Zé Mauricio Machline, the tribute seeks to highlight the cultural impact left by the singer. The choice of the honoree was made by the awards council, which is made up of renowned names in Brazilian music, such as Ney Matogrosso, Zélia Duncan and Gilberto Gil.
