Brazil already knows its opponent for the second phase of the 2026 World Cup. After the 1-1 draw between Japan and Sweden this Thursday (25), the Japanese secured second place in Group F and confirmed the duel against the Brazilian team in the first stage of the knockout stage.

The match will be played next Monday (29), at 2pm (Brasília time), at NRG Stadium, in Houston, Texas, United States. The match is worth a place in the round of 16 of the World Cup, a stage that became part of the tournament after the expansion to 48 teams.

Brazil advanced as leader of Group C, with seven points. The team led by Carlo Ancelotti finished the group stage ahead of Morocco according to the tiebreaker criteria, while Haiti fell by the wayside and Scotland is close to leaving the group of best third-placed teams.

Japan secured qualification by drawing with Sweden in the last round of Group F. The Japanese team finished second in the group, behind the Netherlands, and will now face Brazil in the opening of the knockout phase.

If it advances, the Brazilian team will return to the field on July 5th, Sunday, at 5pm, for the round of 16. The quarter-finals are scheduled for July 11th, the semi-final for July 15th and the World Cup final will be played on July 19th.
