Brazil wants to end the trauma with Europeans that has scared it since the penta

Brazil enters the field against Norway, this Sunday (5), in the round of 16 of the World Cup aiming to break an uncomfortable taboo. Since 2002, the Brazilian team hasn't known what it's like to beat a European in the World Cup knockout stages.

The last Brazilian victory was against Germany, in the 2002 World Cup final, played in Japan and South Korea. On that occasion, Ronaldo scored both goals in the game and Canarinho became five-time champions.

Since then, Brazil has played six games against Europeans and been defeated in all of them, with five eliminations and one defeat in the third place match.

In 2006, the team stopped in France with Henry and company. Four years later, it was the Netherlands' turn. In 2014, the worst defeat in Brazil's history: 7-1 to Germany and also the Netherlands 3 x 0. Then, in 2018 and 2022, Belgium and Croatia defeated Canarinho in the quarter-finals.

Now, Brazil and Norway face each other on Sunday (5), at 5pm (Brasília time), at the MetLife Stadium, in New Jersey, in the round of 16 stage. The winner will guarantee a place in the quarterfinals against Mexico or England.
