Brazil sends six tons of vaccines and medicines to Venezuela

The Brazilian government sent this Saturday (4) around six tons of humanitarian aid to Venezuela, which is facing the consequences of the earthquakes that killed thousands of people at the end of June. The cargo brings together vaccines, medicines and health supplies to reinforce care for the affected population.

The operation was coordinated by ABC (Brazilian Cooperation Agency), linked to the MRE (Ministry of Foreign Affairs). The shipment departed at 6pm from Guarulhos International Airport (SP), on a commercial flight.

The shipment is made up of donations from the Ministry of Health and Eurofarma, in addition to equipment sent by the Brazilian Navy. Among the items are 250,000 doses of canine anti-rabies vaccine, 100,000 doses of yellow fever vaccine, medicines and 17 volumes of equipment and laboratory materials destined for the Brazilian Navy field hospital operating in La Guaira.

According to the federal government, vaccines are transported at controlled temperatures to guarantee the quality and effectiveness of the vaccines. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also stated that the doses sent do not compromise national stocks.

The earthquakes that hit Venezuela worsened the humanitarian situation in the country. According to the latest information published this Saturday, at least 2,954 people died, 16,592 people were injured, 16,309 were displaced and 6,462 were rescued

The U.S. Geological Survey said there is a high probability that the final total will exceed 10,000 dead.

According to the Venezuelan government, in addition to the thousands of deaths and injuries, the tremors caused damage to urban areas and infrastructure, increasing the demand for medical and humanitarian assistance.

The Brazilian shipment seeks to contribute to the care of the affected population and the prevention of diseases in the post-disaster period.
