Brazil regains leadership and overtakes Germany in goals in World Cup history
Brazil regained its historic position in the World Cup this Friday (19). With the two goals scored by Matheus Cunha in the match against Haiti, in the second round of the group stage of the 2026 edition, the Brazilian team reached 241 goals in World Cups and overtook Germany as the top scorer in the history of the competition.
The lead had been lost in the last round, when the Germans thrashed Curaçao 7-1 and reached the mark of 239 goals. At the time, Brazil had 238 and ended up being overtaken for the first time after years at the top of the ranking.
With the goals scored by Cunha and Vini Jr., the team led by Carlo Ancelotti returned to the top of the list. The first goal equaled the German mark of 239, while the second put the Brazilians back in the isolated lead. Shortly afterwards, the Seleção extended its lead and reached 241 goals in World Cups.
