Brazil presents new warship with the presence of Lula
The Brazilian Navy held, this Friday (26), the launching and baptism ceremony of the Frigate "Cunha Moreira" - the third warship of the "Tamandaré" Class.
The event took place at TKMS Estaleiro Brasil Sul, in Itajaí (SC), and was attended by President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, civil and military authorities, as well as professionals who worked directly on the construction of the vessel.
"The launch of the Frigate Cunha Moreira represents the consolidation of the national willingness to build efficient means to be used in maritime areas of interest. The program translates into the development and mastery of critical technologies, strengthening of the Defense Industrial Base, generation of jobs and training of highly qualified labor", highlighted the Navy Commander, Squadron Admiral Marcos Sampaio Olsen.
The new ship is part of the Tamandaré Class Frigate Program, one of the most important technological development programs and strengthening of the country's Defense Industrial Base. The project promises the absorption of strategic knowledge, professional qualification and the strengthening of the Brazilian naval industry, in addition to generating jobs and competitiveness of the national economy.
Frigate "Cunha Moreira" (F202) - Brazilian Navy
The Frigate "Cunha Moreira" will play an important role in protecting the Blue Amazon, alongside the other two ships of the class: the Frigate "Tamandaré" (F200), which is already incorporated into the Brazilian Navy; and the Frigate "Jerônimo de Albuquerque" (F201), which will begin sea acceptance trials soon.
Name chosen
The F202 pays homage to Luís da Cunha Moreira, the Viscount of Cabo Frio, the first native-born Brazilian to hold the position of Minister of the Brazilian Navy. He was born in Salvador, Bahia, on October 1, 1777.

His trajectory reflects the continuity of institutions and military personnel that moved from Colonial Brazil to the creation of the Brazilian State.
He was one of those responsible for the formation of the First Squadron of Brazil and fundamental to the process of consolidating Brazilian Political Independence.
