Brazil is among the countries with the most cases of shark attacks; see ranking

Brazil is among the first countries in the international ranking of shark attacks. The map data prepared by the International Shark Attack Archive (ISAF) at the Florida Museum, in the United States.
The international survey considers attack records from 1580 to last year, across the globe, and only counts "unprovoked" attacks, that is, incidents that occur in the animal's natural habitat and that were not initiated by human interaction.
This Sunday (31), Brazil recorded another attack. An 11-year-old child was bitten by a shark, in Jaboatão dos Guararapes, in Greater Recife. The beach concentrates the highest number of attacks in Pernambuco. (See more below)
Last year, ISAF confirmed 65 unprovoked shark bites and 29 provoked bites. There were 12 confirmed deaths linked to the attacks - 9 of these were classified as unprovoked. See the ranking:

The ranking also takes into account another 50 countries, which have less than 5 recorded attacks. Data is collected by science volunteers around the world, such as regional observers. Due to the collection methodology, the data may differ from the official figures for each country.

Since 1992, Pernambuco has recorded 82 shark incidents, not counting this Sunday's case. The most recent incident took place at Praia Del Chifre, in Olinda, and killed Deivson Rocha Dantas, aged 13, who died.
Before that, on January 9th, in Fernando de Noronha, tourist Dayane Dalezen, aged 36, was bitten on the leg by a nurse shark. After the incident, she was treated at the island's hospital and released. The injury was considered non-serious.
The last shark bite incidents in Greater Recife were in 2023, when, in less than 15 days, a surfer was bitten at Praia Del Chifre, and two teenagers were bitten on consecutive days in Piedade.
