Brazil has the second most powerful passport in Latin America, says research
Brazil's passport is the second most powerful in Latin America, according to the Global Passport Index 2026.
On the global stage, the Brazilian passport appears in 49th place, rising one position compared to last year's survey.
The research analyzes the travel possibilities of those who have this type of document from Brazil, but also considers investment opportunities and quality of life offered.
Brazil had a score of 82.4 (out of a total of 100 points) in the ranking, surpassing the Latin American average in all metrics evaluated. Chile, which has the strongest passport in the region, had a score of 83.1.
According to the survey, among the positive points related to the Brazilian passport are the high travel mobility and quality of life indexes.
Economic and investment opportunities limit the document's performance on the global stage, a structural pattern shared by other Latin American countries, according to the text.
Patricia Casaburi, CEO of Global Citizen Solutions, responsible for the research, highlights that "the reciprocity policy guarantees Brazil robust mobility, configuring the passport as a consolidated diplomatic asset".
She considers that the country's progress in the next editions will depend directly on "economic levers" and adjustments in the tax burden.
Brazil's passport has great "mobility"
According to the Global Passport Index 2026, mobility represents the main differentiator of Brazil's passport. The country achieved the highest score on the continent in this regard and reached 43rd position globally with a score of 90.7.
One of the points that favored the country at this point, according to the research, was diplomatic reciprocity. Examples of this include the reintroduction of the e-Visa for citizens of the United States, Canada, Australia, Mexico, France and Argentina.

In addition, there were new "diplomatic accesses", such as mutual exemption for visas with China.
The report highlights, however, that the implementation of the ETIAS system in Europe will add costs and new prior clearance steps for the region, which is the main travel route for Brazilians.
Investments, opportunities and quality of life
In terms of investments and economic opportunities, Brazil ranked 81st in the world, with a score of 43.9.
The country maintains the second best brand in Latin America, behind Guyana.
Brazil recorded the best innovation index among the region's large economies, but access to markets (50th global position) and financial wealth (78th) present an intermediate performance.
In addition, two of the main limitations to the country's activity are taxation on individuals (89th position) and Gross National Income per capita (85th).
In the quality of life assessment, Brazil ranked 37th globally, with a score of 75.

survey developed by the intelligence team of the international citizenship and residency planning consultancy Global Citizen Solutions (GCS).
The Global Passport Index is an annual survey published by Global Citizen Solutions and is in its fifth edition.
The study ranks passports from 199 countries based on three dimensions:
- mobility (visa-free and visa-on-arrival destinations),
- investment attractiveness (tax environment, innovation credentials and economic competitiveness)
- and quality of life (health, safety, climate and social infrastructure).
