Brazil gets scared, but defeats Netherlands in Women's VNL debut

Brazil made its debut in the Women's VNL this Wednesday (3), at Ginásio Nilson Nelson, in Brasília. Supported by the fans, the team beat the Netherlands by 3 sets to 1, in partials of 25/17, 25/15, 25/27 and 25/23.

Playing at home, the Brazilian team had a great start to the game, easily overcoming their European rival in the first two sets. Then, in the third half, coach José Roberto Guimarães' team ended up being overcome by their opponent, in a set that included a stoppage due to a power failure at the venue.

Finally, after a balanced start, the hosts secured victory in the fourth half. Pointer Júlia Bergmann led the Brazilian attack and finished with 23 points, 20 from attack, two from blocking and one from serving.

Now, Brazil faces the Dominican Republic this Thursday (4), at 8pm (Brasília time), in the second match of the first week of the VNL. Bulgaria and Italy will be the country's other rivals at the opening of the competition.
