Brazil celebrates agreement between the USA and Iran, but demands compliance with the terms and an end to attacks

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a note this Thursday (18) in which it stated that the Brazilian government received with "satisfaction" the agreement between the governments of the United States and Iran, but demanded compliance with the terms and the end of attacks between the countries.
The United States and Iran have been at war for around four months, since Donald Trump's government, in a joint offensive with Israel, attacked Tehran. The action culminated in the death of the Iranian supreme leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, and caused an unprecedented escalation in the conflict
As the attacks continued, Iran resorted to measures such as closing the Strait of Hormuz, through which around 20% of world oil production passes, generating economic effects at a global level due to the increase in the price of a barrel.
The signing of the agreement, called a memorandum of understanding, took place in France.
The document provides for 14 points, including the end of the blockade of Iranian ships, suspension of sanctions and free transit in Hormuz.
"The Brazilian government welcomes with satisfaction the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the United States and Iran, which provides for the end of the conflict that began on 2/28 in the Middle East", says an excerpt from the Brazilian statement.
"Brazil urges the parties to strictly adhere to the agreed terms. It calls, in particular, for the complete cessation of hostilities on all fronts, including in Lebanon, as well as maintaining engagement in negotiations in good faith and strengthening mutual trust, in order to ensure the finalization of a comprehensive peace agreement", added Itamaraty.
Also in the note, the Brazilian government argued that the "only way" for understanding between the countries is diplomatic negotiation.
Over the last few months, representatives from the US and Iran have held several meetings to negotiate an agreement, but several of these meetings have been marked by a lack of understanding and threats mutual agreements between the two countries.

Brazil condemned attacks in February
In February this year, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued a statement in which it condemned the American attack on Iran.
At the time, the Brazilian government expressed "serious concern", stating that the coordinated measure between Americans and Israelis took place precisely at a time of negotiation, which could harm a possible agreement.
It also added that it was necessary for the parties to avoid the "escalation of hostilities", ensuring the protection of civilians and infrastructure civilian.
