Brasileirão: Fluminense loses to Mirassol and is no closer to the lead
Fluminense lost to Mirassol 1-0 on Saturday night (23) and lost the chance of touching the leaders of the Brazilian Championship. Playing in Maião, in the interior of São Paulo, Tricolor Carioca wasted chances, complained about the refereeing and did not reduce the advantage against Palmeiras and Flamengo, leader and vice-leader of the Brasileirão.
How it looks
With the defeat, Fluminense maintained 30 points and third place, still far from Palmeiras and Flamengo. On the other hand, Mirassol reached 16 points and was closer to leaving the relegation zone.
The game
Mirassol was better in the first half. Right away, Alesson was thrown to the bottom, stopped and played backwards. Denílson dominated at the edge of the area and hit Fábio's low right corner, close to the outside post.
At 18, Reinaldo raised the ball in the area, Alesson won it high and headed it. The ball hit Fábio's chest, who palmed it and then held it.
The goal came in the 35th minute. Carlos Eduardo turned Renê on the right of Mirassol's attack, went deep and crossed into the area. Samuel Xavier and Jemmes then missed high cuts and left the ball alive in the half-moon. Denilson caught it first time and sent it into Fábio's right corner.
In stoppage time, Soteldo went deep and crossed for John Kennedy. The attacker headed, the ball hit Samuel Xavier's foot marked by Reinaldo. The rebound fell to the center forward who tried to clear it and was disarmed. The referee awarded a penalty for a pull by Reinaldo on Samuel Xavier, but VAR was called and canceled it.
For those who thought Fluminense would press in the second half, you thought wrong. In fact, the best chances came from Mirassol. At 7, Bernal missed a pass on the ball, Denilson stole it and advanced. The midfielder released a half-moon strike for another save from Fábio.
At 34, Reinaldo took a low free kick with great force, and Fábio sent it wide for a corner.
Fluminense pressed in the final stretch, but far from coming close to goalkeeper Walter's goal.
