Boyfriend of "The Ring" actress accused of scam and negligence
The former manager and longtime friend of Daveigh Chase, who died at the age of 35, John Ryan spoke about the GoFundMe fundraiser to cover the actress's funeral expenses. The fundraiser was created by the actress' boyfriend, Roy Hernandez.
According to Ryan, who told Deadline, the estate left behind by the actress would have enough resources to pay for her cremation and internment expenses, and that her family is really responsible for organizing all the expenses and preparations. "This GoFundMe campaign will not cover any of Daveigh's expenses. Myself, her father, uncle and all her close friends are encouraging people not to donate to this page."
He adds that he contacted Chase's father, John Scwallier, and that he never signed any document giving the boyfriend responsibility. Therefore, family members contacted GoFundMe to inform them that Roy Hernandez had used the actress's name to raise money, without her consent, with the intention of taking the money for himself.
Ryan also accuses Roy of only seeking medical help when Chase's condition was already serious and she was unconscious. "This man who is making these allegations took her to the hospital in serious condition and did not inform any family member until she passed away, in order to control the situation," he told the newspaper.
"The family and I are disgusted with the situation she was in before she passed away. "This guy is trying to turn everything into a Romeo and Juliet story to profit from the situation," concluded Ryan.
For TMZ, Roy Hernandez stated that it is "100% false" to think that the fundraising to pay for the burial would be illegitimate.
Daveigh Chase is known for playing Samara in "The Ring" and for giving the voice to little Lilo in "Lilo & Stitch". In a statement to the tabloid, the boyfriend confirmed the death and said the cause was a serious case of meningitis and blood infections. She was undergoing treatment to cure sepsis (a widespread infection) when her organs failed.
