Bope carries out operation after death of police officer in shooting in the west zone of Rio

Military police officers from BOPE (Special Police Operations Battalion) carried out, on the morning of this Friday (29), an operation to arrest criminals involved in the shooting that ended with the death of a police officer in the community of Morro da Caixa d'Água, in the Tanque neighborhood, in Jacarepaguá, in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro.

The confrontation took place on Thursday (28) and, according to the PM (Military Police), the agents were "attacked by gunfire" while patrolling the region. Four soldiers were injured and were taken to Lourenço Jorge Hospital. However, one of the police officers succumbed to his injuries.

In a statement, the PM lamented the death of the victim, identified as sub-lieutenant André Luiz Cardoso Eccard, who was 49 years old and joined the corporation in 2000. There is still no information about the agent's burial.

According to BOPE command, there is no record of arrests or seizures so far. The incident remains ongoing.
