Syrian state TV reported that a bomb had been planted in the cafe, which is close to the Palace of Justice. There are still no details about the alleged attack, and no immediate claim of responsibility has been made.
Damascus has been the target of some attacks since the overthrow of President Bashar al-Assad in late 2024. His ouster by Ahmed al-Sharaa, now President of Syria, and his rebel forces effectively ended 14 years of civil war.
In May this year, a car bomb killed a Syrian soldier and injured at least 18 other people, in in front of a defense ministry building in Damascus.
