Bolsonarism prices wear on the market when defending anti-factions agenda

Allies of senator and presidential candidate Flávio Bolsonaro (PL) assess that the electoral gains of the offensive for the United States to classify the Brazilian criminal factions PCC (Primeiro Comando da Capital) and CV (Comando Vermelho) as terrorist organizations outweigh the political costs of the measure in the financial market.

Although they recognize the resistance of some economic agents to the initiative at a time when Flávio is trying to attract the market closer to his pre-campaign, Bolsonaro supporters are betting that the speech about getting tougher on crime has greater potential to attract the electorate and, therefore, more votes, which is what really counts at the polls.

In the words of an ally of Flávio, the population is "so tired" of factions and insecurity that they will welcome any foreign aid, as long as it is without loss of sovereignty and without practical losses in their daily lives.

In fact, the expectation among Bolsonarists is that support for the American decision will convert more votes to Flávio than the visit to President Donald Trump itself. During the meeting, the classification of the factions as terrorists was one of the topics.

According to the federal government, the United States' decision could reduce the exchange of information between the police and affect the financial system, including the Pix infrastructure, which was already in the sights of Americans.

The government has already adopted the line of threats to national sovereignty as the main argument for counterattack, in a strategy similar to the one it used when the Americans applied the tariff. About 18 hours after the Trump administration's decision and after a meeting between ministers in Planalto, the government reacted with a harsh note.

In the text, the government states that Brazil is a sovereign nation that permanently fights the PCC and CV, among other factions and militias, in addition to that profit through crime cannot be confused with ideological, political and religious motivations.

The note also makes a point of making it clear that the American government's decision came after interference from the Bolsonaro family. An excerpt says the following: "The security of our population is too important to be politically manipulated by traitors who try to confuse these concepts. By false patriots, involved with organized crime, who ask foreign authorities to interfere in Brazilian affairs."

And he continues by classifying it as "deplorable that once again members of the Bolsonaro family travel to the United States to defend foreign intervention in Brazil, as they already did in the tariff, which caused so much damage to our country."

Apart from the technical arguments, the bet is that Lula can shield himself by saying that the Bolsonaro family acts against national interests. At the same time, Planalto is concerned not to show that it is defending criminals. And, in yet another front of attack, he accuses the Bolsonaro clan of involvement with militias.
