Body found in front of the stadium where the Iranian team trains for the World Cup

A decomposing corpse was found this Friday (12) in the trunk of a car parked in front of the stadium in Mexico where the Iranian football team trains for the World Cup.

The vehicle, a gray Toyota SUV, was in the parking lot of a supermarket facing the Caliente Stadium, in Tijuana, a place used daily by the Persian team and located close to their hotel.
The Iranian was forced, at the last minute, to establish its base camp in Mexico instead of the United States, as had been originally planned, due to the ongoing war between Washington and Tehran.
When police opened the vehicle this Friday, they discovered a strong odor of putrefaction. Agents wearing security suits examined the body at the scene before removing it.
The Tijuana Prosecutor's Office informed the AFP news agency that a patrol located the car and, upon inspecting it, "found a person wrapped in a black bag in the trunk, showing signs of violence."
The agency reported that the vehicle had been parked at the location since Wednesday.
Tijuana is considered one of the most dangerous cities in the country, having recorded more than 1,200 homicides in 2025, according to official statistics.
A heavily armed National Guard convoy escorts the bus transporting the Iranian team between the hotel and the stadium, a journey that takes just one minute.
On Friday, the team left the stadium shortly after authorities removed the body, but did not respond to AFP on whether security would be tightened following the incident.
Iran makes its World Cup debut on Monday against Belgium in Los Angeles in the opening match of Group G, which also includes Egypt and New Zealand.
