Bitcoin drops to lowest value in almost 2 years with search for AI investments
Bitcoin fell sharply again this Friday afternoon (5), hitting its lowest value since October 2024, with investors favoring investments in the technology and AI (artificial intelligence) sector over cryptocurrencies.
Expectations of monetary tightening in the United States after the country's jobs report presented stronger than expected results also contributed to the losses.
At around 4pm (in Brasília), bitcoin fell 6.9%, to US$59,541.20, losing 18.58% in the week, according to the Binance platform. Ethereum fell 12.06%, to US$ 1,559.12, falling 22.67% weekly, according to Binance.
Bitcoin recorded its lowest level since 2024 and, according to Swissquote, has become detached from the performance of the technology sector: "the upside potential of memory chip makers, and now physical AI companies, has been so attractive that Bitcoin's upside potential has suddenly started to look less interesting."
For the bank, companies provide higher returns than bitcoin, with real growth in profits that justifies, in addition to the appreciation of techs, the decline in "interest in cryptocurrencies that are more difficult to price".
