Bia Haddad and Russian beat favorites and advance in doubles at Roland Garros

After being eliminated in the singles category, Bia Haddad Maia achieved a great result in the doubles at Roland Garros. She and Russian Liudmila Samsonova eliminated American Desirae Krawczyk and Ukrainian Lyudmyla Kichenok, this Tuesday (26), and advanced to the second round of the clay court Grand Slam.

The victory was achieved by 2 sets to 1, with partial scores of 7-5, 2-6 and 6-2. The result can be considered a surprise given that the United States/Ukraine partnership was one of the competition's favorite pairs, being seeded 9th in the tournament.

In the next phase, the Brazil/Russia partnership will face whoever qualifies from the duel between Aldila Sutjiadi/Janice Tjen and Marie Bouzkova/Sara Sorribes Tormo.

In the singles category, Bia Haddad is 105th in the WTA rankings. In doubles she is 91st. Liudmila Samsonova is 27th in singles and 35th in doubles.
